Cookie policy
The few cookies TideWright sets, what each one does and how long it lasts.
Draft: details still to be filled in
This page is not final. The highlighted values in square brackets are still to be filled in.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. TideWright, operated by [Company legal name], uses them only to sign you in, keep that secure and remember a few choices you make in the app.
2. The cookies we use
All of them are first-party, set by TideWright itself, and either strictly necessary or there to remember a choice you made. On a secure connection the sign-in cookies' names start with __Secure-, and every cookie is sent only over that secure connection.
| Cookie | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|
better-auth.session_token | Keeps you signed in. Set when you sign in with GitHub and removed when you sign out. | Up to 7 days (12 hours for TideWright staff) |
better-auth.state and other better-auth.* cookies | Protect the GitHub sign-in from forgery while it is under way. | A few minutes |
tw_install_state | Remembers which product you were connecting while you install the TideWright GitHub App. | 30 minutes |
tw_last_org | Opens the org you last worked in when you come back. | 1 year |
tw_sidebar, tw_shortcuts | Remember whether the sidebar is open and whether keyboard shortcuts are on. | 1 year |
tw_diff_layout | Remembers how you like code changes laid out in reviews. | 1 year |
tw_bosun_motion | Remembers whether Bosun moves or stays still. | 1 year |
Each preference cookie holds your user ID and your choice (for tw_last_org, the org's ID), and nothing else about you. The same choices are saved with your account, so clearing them loses nothing.
3. No advertising or tracking cookies
We do not use advertising cookies, analytics cookies or cookies from other companies, and the public pages (the home page, the blog and these policies) set none at all. When you are signed in, we count which features you use on our own servers, without any cookie; our privacy policy explains this and how to turn it off. If that changes, we will update this policy and ask for your consent first where the law requires it.
4. Your choices
Because these cookies are needed for the service to work or only remember choices you made, we do not ask for consent to them and do not show a cookie banner. You can block or delete cookies in your browser's settings, but you will not be able to sign in without the sign-in cookies.
5. Changes to this policy
We will post any change here and update the date at the top.
